The German American Chamber of Commerce is an official sponsor of J-1 visa Exchange Visitors (trainees/interns) and we endeavor to keep you updated on all relevant immigration news.
Last night, President Trump updated Presidential Proclamation 10014 of April 22, 2020 further excluding several visa categories from entry to the United States.
This exclusion includes J-1 visa interns and trainees. The official text of the President’s Proclamation can be found on The White House website. This proclamation is effective at 12:01 a.m. EDT on June 24, 2020 until the end of this year.
- • Exchange Visitors currently in the United States participating in active programs are allowed to continue as scheduled. Extension requests of these programs under review and eligible future requests may proceed as well.
- • Exchange Visitors with existing valid J-1 visas in their passports may be able to return to the United States for program continuation if eligibility conditions are met.
- • Exchange Visitors with valid J-1 visas may be able to begin their programs if eligibility conditions are met.
- • Candidates currently in the application process or those that have issued DS-2019s but no visa will not be able to begin their programs until at least January 1, 2021.
Further guidance from the U.S. State Department may be forthcoming and we will keep you informed from our official sources.
We understand that these restrictions might be disappointing to many of you and as your sponsor, we are to help in any way that we can. We will work with you and your host company to find program dates that fit within these new restrictions. Please feel free to reach out to your GACC case manager with your questions and concerns.
